The memory chamber of Borsec mineral water

The Mineral Water Museum (Hungarian Borszéki Borvíz Múzeum) stands in the spa town of Borsec, on the Seven Springs Promenade. The building bears the architectural marks of the old Lázár Bath — a heritage monument of traditional Borsec spa culture.

The museum was created through a partnership between the local town hall and the mineral water bottling company — a collaboration aimed at preserving the town's scientific and cultural heritage.

In a separate room it presents more than 200 years of regional history, closely entwined with the local mineral-water culture and bottling industry. Visitors get a comprehensive overview of Borsec water's role in world history.

100+ items from the history of Borsec bottling

The museum's collection features over 100 mineral-water-related items and historical photos. This unique collection shows how Borsec water became world-famous from 1806.

Since the 1873 gold medal at the Vienna World Exhibition and Emperor Franz Joseph naming it the "queen of mineral waters", Borsec water has ranked among the world's most prestigious mineral waters. At the 2004 international Berkeley Springs competition, it won the title of "world's best sparkling mineral water" from 100 entries.

The museum's treasures

Original 19th-century bottle

The museum's oldest item is an original mineral-water bottle used to transport Borsec water in the late 19th century — a historic object more than 130 years old.

Hand-operated capping machine

A hand-operated capping machine from the early days of bottling — a tool from the 19th-century industrial revolution used to seal the bottles. A unique witness to the technology of the age.

Antique clay jugs

Relics from the era before bottling — from the early 19th century, Borsec water was carried in clay jugs throughout Transylvania, Moldavia and Hungary. The tradition before glass bottles.

Wooden carrying barrels

Traditional carrying tools — wooden barrels were used to bring the water from the springs to consumers. Integral to rural industry and mineral-water culture.

Period labels

Original, period-faithful labels attached to the bottles — documenting the evolution of the Borsec brand from the 19th century to today.

Old photos and documents

The museum's photo gallery holds archival photographs of Borsec spa culture, 19th-century guests and the town's development.
