Harghita County is located at altitudes between 600–1800 metres above sea level, with a predominantly mountainous character. The climate is shaped by the protective ring of the Carpathians: pleasant cool summers, harsh winters with clean air and a long autumn offer a unique natural experience. The healing springs, baths and natural gas emissions of Harghita County have attracted those seeking recovery for centuries. Science has confirmed what locals have always known.

💧 Mineral water baths

Băile Tușnad, Borsec and Toplița offer mineral thermal baths beneficial for cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and digestive conditions. The thermal water rising from 1000 metres depth is especially recommended for rheumatism, joint and skin problems.

🌫️ Mofettes

Natural carbon dioxide emissions — mofettes — are used to strengthen the cardiovascular system, regulate blood pressure and relieve musculoskeletal complaints. The Harghita region has numerous natural mofettes available under medical supervision.

🌊 Praid salt baths

The natural 49-degree salt spring of Praid and the deep thermal water have a unique composition. The water, containing 84 types of minerals, is proven effective against rheumatism, cartilage wear, varicose veins and skin conditions.

🌲 Forest air

Phytoncides released by conifer and beech forests are natural immune boosters. The clean mountain air, rich in negative ions, makes the area ideal for people with allergies and respiratory conditions.

Mountain weather can vary by 10–15°C during the day. Even in summer, bring a jacket for the evening.

Summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms. Morning is the best time for hiking — a raincoat is essential.

Snow can last from mid-November to March. Morning ice is possible on roads — winter tyres required.

It can be 15°C in Miercurea Ciuc while it snows on Harghita Peak (1800m). Always check local data!

Strong winds blow along the Harghita ridge all year. On exposed summits gusts of 40–60 km/h are common.
