Alpine Coaster Toplița
Opened in 2021 with a 2-million-euro investment, this adventure track is Romania's longest alpine coaster,
running over 1,900 metres at the foot of the Călimani Mountains, with adrenaline at 45 km/h!
Romania's longest alpine coaster
The Alpine Coaster Toplița is Romania's longest and one of its most modern alpine coasters. The facility lies at the foot of the Călimani Mountains, right next to the Toplița ski slopes (Bradul and Măgheruș) and Pensiunea Baciu.
🏆 On this modern, safe coaster of nearly 2 km (over 1,900 metres) you can enjoy the speed and the beauty of the Toplița landscape. A full lap — lift up plus ride down — takes about 10 minutes: after a slow uphill section on the lift, the track mostly winds downhill through pine forest.
📊 It is the 3rd alpine coaster in the Székely Land by date of opening — the first was SkiGyimes in Lunca de Sus in 2019 (1,300 m), then the Reménység slope in Borsec in 2020 (1,500 m), and finally Toplița in 2021 (1,900+ m). The longest is the one in Toplița!
👨 According to owner Nicu Baciu, a great many tourists come to try the track, and more than 1,200 people used it on opening day!

Modern safety system
🛡️ The coaster is very modern and at the same time safe. Thanks to the safety system of the rail track, the sleds cannot collide with each other:
📡 Anti-collision sensors — every sled is fitted with sensors that prevent collisions between two sleds.
⏸️ Dual braking system:
👤 Manual brake (hand brake) — the rider controls the speed
🤖 Automatic brake — engages automatically above 45 km/h
👨👩👧 Family-friendly: because of the automatic braking, children aged 3–8 may only use the track with an adult, and on their own from age 8.
⚖️ Weight limit: a sled seats up to 2 people, and the combined weight of the two passengers may not exceed 150 kg.

Why is it worth trying?
🎢 The Alpine Coaster Toplița is not a traditional "lift + slide" track — it is a nearly 2-km adventure at the foot of the Călimani Mountains! The sleds pull themselves up to the top along the rail, and then each rider controls the speed on the way down with the hand brake.
🌲 Natural setting: the track winds downhill through pine forest — every section opens a different view. It sits on the area of the Pârtia Toplița ski slope (Bradul and Măgheruș), where the mountain panorama is wonderful in summer too.
👨👩👧👦 A family experience: children can ride from age 3 with an adult — safe and exciting.
⚠️ One important note: the lift (the trip back up) is a slow section — many visitors mention it. A full lap (lift + ride down) takes about 10 minutes, but the descent itself is a few minutes of adrenaline at a top speed of 45 km/h!
🍔 Right by the track there is a restaurant, a ski slope, a horse-riding centre and pony rides — you can plan a whole day out!

Pârtia Toplița ski slope

Horse riding and pony rides
A horse-riding centre operates within the coaster grounds — for adults and children alike.
Restaurant on site
The restaurant at Pensiunea Baciu serves delicious local food — rest a while after your coaster rides!

There are several wellness spas in town — relaxation after the adventure.
Thermal waterfall
A natural curiosity of Toplița — a geological reserve right in the town centre.
